The Department of Spleen and Stomach Diseases, established in 1997, has general clinics, expert clinics, VIP clinics, special disease clinics and general wards with 30 beds. There are currently 16 physicians, including 5 chief physicians, 2 associate chief physicians, 6 attending physicians and 3 resident physicians; 9 with a TCM doctor's degree and the rest with a master's degree. The department is a post-doctoral research station, with 2 doctoral supervisors and 5 master supervisors. It has also established a national famous TCM expert (Yao Naili) inheritance studio, and a capital TCM master(Yao Naili) inheritance studio. 6 physicians in the department are the inheritors of Yao Naili's academic experience.

We diagnose and treat the digestive system diseases with a combination of TCM and Western medicine and have achieved clinically satisfactory results in the treatments of following diseases: stomach pain (chronic gastritis), constipation (functional constipation), hypochondriac pain (cirrhosis), acid reflux (reflux esophagitis ) and other diseases, with an annual 110,000 outpatient visits. At present we can perform routine electronic gastrointestinal endoscopy, painless gastrointestinal endoscopy and endoscopic polypectomy, 24-hour esophageal pH and impedance measurement, 13C breath test for helicobacter pylori, etc. A number of TCM characteristic therapies for external application have been applied when treating inpatients including acupoint- application, moxibustion, hot compress of herbal medicine, ear acupuncture, intradermal needle therapy, herbal aromatherapy, foot bath and Daoyin exercise and good results have been achieved.

We have successively undertaken more than 10 scientific research projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, the Beijing Capital Medical Development Fund; and won one second prize and one third prize of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Award, one second and third prize for scientific and technological achievements of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, and one third prize for scientific and technological progress of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. We have also published more than 200 academic papers in national core journals and more than 20 academic works.
