The Department of Emergency was established in 1980. After 40 years of development, it has formed a "unit" service model, integrating first-aid, intensive care, treatment and rehabilitation. It consists of general internal medicine outpatient clinic(integrated TCM and western medicine), emergency outpatient clinic and emergency observation, emergency ward and intensive care unit(ICU). With well-equipped facilities and strong technical force, the department has adhered to TCM characteristics and achieved definite curative effects. And it is a key specialty construction unit of the State Administration of TCM.

From the department's establishment, we have been focusing on TCM. Under the leadership of Qi Wensheng, the leader of the discipline, we inherit the academic ideas of famous TCM masters such as Pu Fuzhou, Fang Yaozhong, Xue Boshou, and combine with our many years of clinical experience to treat various acute and critical illnesses with integrated TCM and Western medicine, creating an emergency treatment platform of  integrating TCM and Western medicine. We have formed a TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment system when patients have multiple system diseases such as exogenous fever (various acute infectious and contagious diseases), cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (coronary heart disease, cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, etc.), multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and various incurable diseases. We apply many TCM therapies in clinical practice including herbal atomization inhalation, herbal acupoint application, herbal external application, herbal enema, herbal soaking, Gua Sha, electric acupuncture, fire needle, acupoint injection, etc. and have developed a series of formulas for some diseases such as formulas for common cold (Gegen Decoction, Jiawei Yinqiao powder, Qingshu mixture), coronary heart disease and stroke, and other formulas like Puji Xuanfei Xiaodu Yin, Xuanfei Zhike Yin, Xinjiada YuanSan, which are widely used clinically, creating good clinical effects.
