The Department of Endocrinology, established in 1976, after 5 generations of continuous efforts, has developed into a national key TCM endocrinology specialty and key TCM endocrinology discipline construction unit, a national regional diagnosis and treatment center(Endocrinology) and the national TCM diabetes clinical research base, conducting medical care, scientific research, education and nursing care. The department is the TCM Innovation Team of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, the Capital Core Specialty of Beijing National TCM Key Specialty Radiation Project (1+X＋N), the Leading Unit of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei TCM Cooperative Development of Endocrinology Key Specialty Alliance, the Beijing TCM Prevention Office for Diabetes, and the excellent training team for Beijing TCM Resident Standardized Training.
The department has several well-known TCM endocrinologists and young TCM endocrinologists in China, with outstanding representatives including Professor Lin Lan, a national famous TCM master and Professor Tong Xiaolin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The staff include TCM clinician, nurse specialist, ultrasound doctor, radiologist, pathological biopsy technician, laboratory technician and other professionals.
The department consists of general clinics, specialized clinics, expert clinics, VIP clinics, 95 beds for inpatients, clinical examination rooms, laboratories, research rooms, rehabilitation rooms and remote consultation rooms. Because we are in a leading position in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and its complications, thyroid disease, obesity and metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis, hyperuricemia and gout in TCM, therefore, we newly established clinics for diabetic blood glucose management and education, diabetic microvascular disease, thyroid disease, hyperthyroidism, osteoporosis, obesity and related diseases, hyperuricemia and gout, menopause and etc.
Our department can perform many clinical examinations for diabetic complications screening and diagnosis and osteoporosis diagnosis such as color Doppler ultrasound, non-mydriatic fundus photography, bone density, electromyography, sympathetic nerve function, and detect more than 100 endocrine and metabolism indicators. We are the first in the hospital to do the pathological diagnosis of thyroid by fine-needle aspiration biopsy and drainage of thyroid cyst. We can also conduct remote consultations for patients at home and abroad.
Our scientific research focus on diabetes and its complications and hyperthyroidism. More than 100 national research programs have been finished and many new herbal medicines have been developed such as Jiang Tang A Tablet, Ke Le Ning Capsule, Tang Min Ling Pill, Tang Wei Kang Capsule, Qi Zhi Jiang Tang Capsule, Ke Le Xin Capsule and etc. with definite curative effect, well-recognized by patients and well-known at home and abroad.
