The Department of General Internal Medicine mainly treats multisystem common disease of the elderly. Over the years, we have accumulated rich experience in the diagnosis and treatment of multi-organ and multi-system diseases in the elderly, highlighting the unique advantages of TCM and achieving better results. We have also accumulated a wealth of experience in the treatment of critically ill elderly patients and passed the evaluation of Beijing "Geriatric Friendly Hospital". Upholding the "patient-centered" concept, all of doctors provide quality medical services to patients with full enthusiasm.

There are 21 doctors in our department, including 5 well-known experts, 3 chief physicians and 6 associate chief physicians. The annual outpatient visits are about100,000. Most patients suffer from internal common diseases and frequently-occurring diseases. TCM has obvious characteristics in the diagnosis and comprehensive treatment for diseases such as high blood pressure, coronary heart diseases, heart failure, arrhythmia, stroke and other cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, as well as diabetes, and with satisfactory results. Rich experience has been accumulated in the differential diagnosis and treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome, digestive system diseases and menopausal syndrome. The featured TCM techniques including ear acupuncture, intradermal needle, cupping and moxibustion have been applied in clinical practice.

The department has set up 3 special out-patient clinics for hypertension, vertigo and arteriosclerosis, providing comprehensive and specialized medical care to patients.

The scientific research of the department has been focused on clinical practice. Now a number of national and Beijing municipal level research projects are being studied, involving heart failure, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, etc.
