The Department of Nephrology, with TCM features, is a construction unit of tertiary discipline of nephropathy, a key specialty construction unit of TCM nephropathy of the State Administration of TCM. It, conducting medical treatment, scientific research and education,is a doctoral and master degree granting unit of TCM and integrated TCM and Western medicine in nephropathy.

The department has 7 chief physicians and 5 associate chief physicians, including 3 doctoral supervisors, 2 master supervisors, 2 national TCM outstanding talents, 3 young and middle-aged well-known TCM doctors of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and 1 entitled to special government allowance. Adhering to the characteristics of TCM, we have continuously improved the level of diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases and formed a unique TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment system in the treatment of various acute and chronic kidney diseases and achieved relatively satisfactory clinical effects, including following diseases, such as chronic renal failure, IgA nephropathy, membranous nephropathy, diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive kidney injury and etc.

Doctors in our department have served in many academic organizations and their academic influence in China has continued to increase. For example, Zhan Yongli, the head of the department, concurrently serves as the vice chairman of the Nephrology Committee of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine. Every year we train 5 to 10 postgraduates of TCM and integrated TCM and Western medicine. And we have also undertaken scientific research programs of the National Natural Science Research Fund, and obtained a number of scientific research achievements. We will uphold the vision of "In pursuit of profoundness of TCM sciences and integrity and professionalism in medical practice" of Guang'anmen Hospital, and make unremitting efforts to relieve the suffering of the patients with kidney disease.
